Description:
"Virtual Breast Tumor Board" is a case-based discussion that focuses on current issues and changing dynamics in the treatment of patients with triple-negative breast cancer. The panel of experts will discuss the most appropriate management options for the cases as well as recent and on-going clinical trials. In addition, this activity will review important data presented at the 2010 ASCO meeting as it relates to triple-negative breast cancer.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology, natural history and prognosis of patients with triple-negative breast cancer
- Describe the associations between BRCA mutation, basal-like histology and triple-negative breast cancer
- Evaluate currently available treatment options for patients with triple-negative breast cancer
- Discuss recently completed and ongoing research into treatments for triple-negative breast cancer including cytotoxic therapy, epothilones, PARP inhibitors and other targeted agents
- Describe the cell signaling pathways being investigated as targets for triple-negative breast cancer treatments
- Summarize important data on the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer presented at the 2009 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (2009 SABCS)
Target Audience:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical, radiation and surgical oncologists involved in the care of patients with breast cancer.

For each case, the patient history, staging and location of tumor are presented. The panel then discusses the appropriate treatment course for the particular case. Cases will be selected to illustrate the stated learning objectives as they relate to triple-negative breast cancer.
