Description:

Virtual Ovarian Tumor Board: Recurrent Cases” is a case-based discussion that focuses on current issues and changing dynamics in the treatment of patients with recurrent ovarian cancer.  Issues to be explored by this activity include:

- How to select the optimal therapy based on efficacy vs. toxicity profile/quality of life

- Use of non-platinum doublets for platinum-sensitive disease

- What is the potential role of targeted therapy?

- Is there a role for cytoreductive surgery or radiation therapy in recurrent disease?

- Should CA-125 levels alone determine when to initiate treatment in recurrent ovarian cancer?

- How do you treat a patient who has received multiple regimens and still wishes to continue treatment?

Learning Objectives:

Case 1: Platinum-resistant disease (recurrence at 4 months)

  1. Outline treatment goals for the recurrent ovarian cancer case presented
  2. Discuss evidence-based therapy recommendations for the recurrent ovarian cancer case presented
  3. Describe the results of recent clinical trials evaluating chemotherapy regimens for recurrent ovarian cancer
  4. Discuss the research into the use of novel agents in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer

Case 2: Recurrent disease at 10 months

  1. Discuss evidence-based therapy recommendations for the recurrent ovarian cancer case presented
  2. Describe the results of recent clinical trials evaluating chemotherapy regimens for recurrent ovarian cancer
  3. Discuss research into whether CA-125 levels alone determine when to initiate treatment in recurrent ovarian cancer

Case 3: Recurrent disease at 20 months

  1. Outline treatment goals for the recurrent ovarian cancer case presented
  2. Discuss evidence-based therapy recommendations for the recurrent ovarian cancer case presented
  3. Discuss the research into the use of novel agents in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer
  4. Describe the role of secondary cytoreduction for patients with recurrent ovarian cancer
Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical oncologists and gynecologic oncologists involved in the care of patients with ovarian cancer.

Accreditation Statement:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Michigan Medical School and IMPACt, Inc. The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation:

The University of Michigan Medical School designates each of these case presentations for a maximum of .25 AMA PRA Category 1 credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
