Description:

”Virtual Breast Tumor Board: Metastatic Cases” is a case-based discussion that focuses on current issues and changing dynamics in the treatment of patients with advanced breast cancer. The panel of experts will discuss the most appropriate management options for the cases and emphasize a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment.

 

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Outline evidence-based therapy recommendations for the cases presented

2. Describe newly reported clinical studies and results of first-line treatment regimens for patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer (MBC)

3. Describe the role of targeted therapies in recurrent and MBC

4. Discuss the indications and contraindications for surgery and radiation in recurrent and MBC

5. Describe strategies for 2nd line treatment of MBC including treatment refractory disease

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical oncologists, surgeons and other medical professionals involved in the care of patients with breast cancer.

Case Presentations:

A 42 year old presents with a 6 month history of a left breast mass and a 3 week history of a new onset right hip pain.  PE: 4cm mass UOQ left breast, clinically positive axillary node.

A 56 year old was diagnosed with a T2N1 Stage 2 breast cancer, ER, PR and HER-2 negative, in 2007.  She was treated with lumpectomy, axillary dissection, RT, and dose dense ACT.  She presents now with weight loss and fatigue and is found to have multiple liver metastases and a small left pleural effusion.
